Impacts of longwall subsidence on soil characteristics and wheat crop production at Kestrel coal mine

This project follows on from a 3 year completed study that compared crop yields and soil properties on subsided and comparable unsubsided lands above longwall coal mines in central Queensland. Impacts of longwall subsidence on plant production were evaluated using data on seedling emergence counts, vegetative growth and biomass measurements, grain yield and protein and moisture contents. These have been related to soil moisture and other soil physical and chemical characteristics.
