Investigation into the suitability of tailings media for direct revegetation, Pajingo gold mine, north Queensland

The objective of this preliminary study was to determine whether the tailings at the Pajingo operation were a suitable substrate for the direct establishment of local native tree, shrub and grass species. The chemical and physical properties of the material were characterised and limitations for seedling emergence and growth identified. Glasshouse experiments were commenced to ascertain the nutritional requirements of the target species and any potential issues related to heavy metals.
