Sustainable grazing on rehabilitated lands in the Bowen Basin – Stage 2

Extensive areas of improved pasture rehabilitation within the central Queensland coalfields, could potentially support cattle grazing as a post-mine landuse. This extension project continues grazing trials established previously at Goonyella Riverside, Norwich Park and Blackwater mines to assess the grazing capacity of pasture-based rehabilitation and aims to develop guidelines for a sustainable grazing landuse. Using a pasture productivity model, preliminary recommended stocking rates are being compared with predicted sustainable stocking rates to help develop the guidelines.
