Project outline

Previous related research has shown that at a number of open-cut coalmines in central Queensland, rehabilitation work has resulted in landscapes and eco-systems capable of supporting grazing sustainably. The current project takes these findings a step further by investigating how the management of such sites by graziers (especially the possibility of overgrazing) may affect the risks of environmental degradation.

The project investigates this by seeking to understand the influence of graziers’ characteristics and circumstances on their land management decisions. The model uses conditional probabilities, a Bayesian Belief Network (BBN), as its framework.
