Salt-affected
land or land affected by the process of salinity is an insidious
environmental issue in Australia, presenting a sobering challenge
to land managers and government agencies to retain ecologically
and sustainably productive land for the future.
The hypersaline waste water from the production of oil has leaked
through the evaporation pond walls into the natural environment,
affecting soil, water and vegetation. The aim of this project
is to explore options to rehabilitate the highly saline land in
and around the evaporation ponds at the Beach Petroleum oilfields
in the Eromanga Basin. |
